Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has stated that the outcome of the 2027 presidential election will be determined by hungry Nigerians.
Makinde made the assertion on Wednesday in Ibadan during the official inauguration of the newly elected South-West zonal executive members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Addressing party faithful at the event, the governor dismissed concerns over recent defections from the PDP, including those involving high-ranking politicians and governors. He emphasized that the party remains committed to aligning with the masses and their aspirations.
“People have been asking us as leaders of this party about the spate of defections — even governors leaving — and wondering about the future of the PDP,” Makinde said.
“I have good news. We won’t be concerned until hunger decamps to the ruling APC. The day hunger leaves the streets and joins the APC, then we’ll know it’s time to worry. But as it stands, the majority of Nigerians are hungry, and those people will decide what 2027 will look like.”
He urged party members not to be discouraged, insisting that the PDP remains the only party in Nigeria with deep-rooted institutions capable of delivering true democratic dividends.
“No matter who decamps, we will stay with the people,” Makinde concluded.
