The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Olufemi Haruna, has formally assumed office as the 48th Police Commissioner, assuring the public of a more dynamic and people-centered policing approach that will strengthen peace and tranquility across the state.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ibadan, CP Haruna reaffirmed his commitment to leading the Oyo State Police Command with impartiality and professionalism, irrespective of individuals’ backgrounds, ideologies, religions, or affiliations.
He commended the unwavering support of the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for continuously providing an enabling environment for security agencies to operate effectively. CP Haruna also expressed readiness to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor to sustain and improve the relative peace currently enjoyed by residents.
Highlighting the Command’s renewed operational focus, the Police Commissioner emphasized enhanced collaboration with sister security agencies, credible community informants, vigilante groups, the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun), and members of the media to tackle criminal activities head-on. These include kidnapping, illegal mining, land grabbing, cult-related violence, and armed robbery.
Unveiling his strategic action plan, CP Haruna disclosed that the Command would be consolidating existing security frameworks while introducing more effective, intelligence-driven measures aimed at neutralizing criminal elements across the state.
Before his current appointment, CP Olufemi Haruna served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, bringing with him a wealth of experience in intelligence and strategic policing.
