The so-called sterling performance of Engr. Seyi Makinde has been over-exaggerated and overblown. The administrations of Adewolu Ladoja, Alao-Akala and Ajimobi highlighted water availability in some areas of Ibadan as sacrosanct and of immense necessity.
Under Engr. Seyi Makinde, there is an ugly situation of deteriorating and total neglect of the waterworks at Eleyele and Asejire Dam, which provided a profound solution to the water menace around Ibadan and its environs. GSM has prioritised a populist agenda over social amenities that would have benefited the masses.
The Governor should be reminded that only the rich can afford the exorbitant cost of boreholes.
Investigative journalism reveals that some of the quality water equipment purchased by the regime of Ladoja were sold off by the GSM-led government.
GSM is projecting himself as a masses-oriented government. He must justify such claims by taking meaningful steps through the rural road network, which will result in providing basic social amenities and far-reaching economic incentives that will cushion the draconian effects of inflation in the state.
GSM should stop prioritising projects that will satisfy his personal interests alone.
