The Forum of Local Government Special Assistants on Women Affairs in Oyo State expresses deep sympathy and commiserates with the victims and families affected by the unfortunate stampede at the recent funfair event in Ibadan.
A press statement signed by the group Coordinator, Hon. Adetoro Jumoke and made available to Freshvoice Newsmedia noted that this tragic incident serves as a solemn reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and care, especially during festive seasons when public gatherings are common.
In light of this, the Forum advises mothers and guardians to exercise greater caution in monitoring and protecting their children during this period and beyond. Children’s safety should remain a priority, particularly in crowded or potentially hazardous environments.
We urge parents to:
1. Stay Close to Their Children: Ensure children are within reach and avoid letting them wander off in public spaces.
2. Educate Children on Safety: Teach them to recognize and avoid dangerous situations and how to seek help if needed.
3. Choose Safe Environments: Carefully evaluate the safety measures in place at events or gatherings before attendance.
The Forum reiterates its commitment to advocating for women and children’s welfare across Oyo State and calls on event organizers to prioritize safety and crowd control measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims and their families, and we pray for their quick recovery and healing.
