In a concerning turn of events, the Ogun State Government is facing allegations of forceful enthrallment of Oba Ademola Eletu Asorota as the Onitele of Itele Awori in Ado Odo Ota Local Government. The accusations are centered around the purported impersonation and falsification of documents.
Our correspondent has obtained certified true copies of the alleged falsified documents, stemming from an affidavit filed at the Supreme Court on October 30, 2023. These documents are attached to the affidavit of facts filed by the Adogun Atele family in SC/CV/79/2022, involving Mr. Saibu Olugbode versus Chief Taoridi Dada and another party.
Surprisingly, Mr. Saibu Olugbode, who is seeking the leave of the apex court to appeal against concurrent judgments regarding the Itele land, has been implicated in the fraud and impersonation. Additionally, his brother, Mr. Sansaliu Bamishebi, purportedly impersonated as the Head of Adogun Atele family. These revelations question the selection process that led to the appointment of Oba Ademola Eletu Asorota, who is said not to belong to any of the legitimate ruling houses of Itele Awori Land, as pronounced by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Efforts by the State Government to handle the issue discreetly have reportedly been unsuccessful.
Investigative journalism has shed light on the process that led to the appointment of the said monarch, indicating that it may not align with legal requirements. The exposed documents include a letter from the State Government directed to the four ruling houses that make up Adogun Atele Family, as judicially affirmed by the Supreme Court in SC/200/2003. However, the Ado Odo Ota Local Government minutes, issued by Mr. Kola Lameed Muyideen, the Secretary to the then Local Government of the Election by warrant kingmakers, suggest that the judgment debtors acted on behalf of the rightful ruling houses.
Chief Taoreed Dada, the Head of Adogun Atele Family, has spoken out about the allegations, asserting that former Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Moruf Afuape, who now represents Abeokuta South at the Federal House of Representatives, in collusion with the Director of General Service and Administration of Ado Odo Ota Local Government, Mr. Solomon Dada, orchestrated this alleged fraud.
Despite our attempts to reach out to the accused monarch and government officials involved in this case, they have not provided their side of the story.
