The Authentic Mogaji of Ibadan, Oyo State, have officially disassociated themselves from endorsing any candidate for the position of Iyaloja General of Oyo State. In a joint communique issued at the end of an Authentic Mogaji meeting over the weekend, it was clarified that their traditional roles are limited to supervising activities within their compounds and maintaining law and order.
The Authentic Mogaji emphasized that it is not within their purview to intervene in the activities of market men and women associations, let alone endorse a candidate for the role of Iyaloja General of Oyo State. They emphasized that the title of Iyaloja General pertains to the entirety of Oyo State and is not specific to Ibadan Land. The Authentic Mogaji pledged to preserve the traditions of Ibadan to ensure the peaceful coexistence of its citizens.
This statement comes in response to a statement attributed to the Public Relations Officer of the association, Mogaji Sanusi Akintobi, indicating that Ibadan Mogajis had endorsed Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje as Iyaloja General of Oyo State.
The Authentic Mogaji further clarified that the installation and coronation of Princess Folashade Abeo Nurudeen as Iyaloja General took place at the Alaafin palace on Monday, April 26, 2021. This followed the endorsement of Princess Folashade Abeo Nurudeen by no fewer than eight out of twelve various cluster groups comprising artisans, technicians, and traders in Oyo State. The Authentic Mogaji urge any dissatisfied individuals or groups to resolve their concerns amicably without causing inter-regional discord.
In attendance at the meeting were Chief Adekunle Olaonumi Aperin (Acting Chairman), Mogaji Olawale Oladoja (Mogaji Akinsola – P.R.O), Mogaji Badmus Olorombo Itabigbo (Acting Secretary), Mogaji Olanrewaju Sulaiman Oladokun (Mogaji Afejamuyan Olanlokun), Mogaji Ifalere Fagbenro (Mogaji Ọ̀ṣọ́ Adégboyè), Mogaji Teslim Olugbode (Mogaji Olugbode), Mogaji Muktar Gbadeyanka (Mogaji Adeyipo), Mogaji Rasaq Adeyemo (Mogaji Molade), Mogaji Ismail Shittu (Mogaji Gbáalẹ́fàá Ọ̀jé), and Mogaji Ganíyù Popoola (Mogaji Olújọ-Oloosa Ìpetu).
