The office states Chairmen, Yoruba Council of Youth Worldwide (YCYW), under the leadership of Asoju Odo Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, the Chairman YCYW Oyo State Council, deeply mourn the tragic and horrifying demise of Atanda Modupe Deborah, a 100-level student of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE).
It is with heavy hearts that we express our shock and dismay at the circumstances surrounding the untimely passing of this promising young lady. Modupe Deborah went to the university premises for night reading, a practice many students undertake to excel in their academic pursuits. Unfortunately, she never returned from that fateful night.
What is even more disturbing is that when her friends reported her missing to the school authorities, their pleas seemingly fell on deaf ears. It is a matter of grave concern that the institution, responsible for the welfare and safety of its students, allegedly did nothing to investigate or locate her during the critical hours when swift action was needed.
Subsequently, her friends took it upon themselves to initiate a search party, demonstrating remarkable courage and solidarity. Tragically, their relentless efforts led them to a horrifying discovery. After two days of searching, they found the lifeless body of Modupe Deborah in a shallow grave within the school compound, specifically in front of the pharmacy building. It is with immense sorrow that we report that her eyes were cruelly plucked out, and other vital body parts were inexplicably missing.
We, the Yoruba Council of Youth, strongly condemn this heinous act, which not only robbed a promising young student of her life but also violated the sanctity and security of our educational institutions. We are deeply saddened by the pain and trauma inflicted upon Modupe Deborah’s family and friends.
In light of these distressing circumstances, we call upon the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbedokun, the Ekiti State Government, law enforcement agencies, and the management of the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) to immediately launch a detailed and transparent investigation into this gruesome incident. We demand that all perpetrators, no matter how highly placed, be brought to justice swiftly.
Furthermore, we urge the government and educational institutions across the nation to prioritize the safety and security of our students. No student should ever have to fear for their life while pursuing knowledge.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Modupe Deborah during this incredibly painful time. May her soul rest in peace, and may justice prevail.
