In a welcome address by Prince Oluyemisi A. Adeaga, National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and made available to www.freshvoicenewsmedia.com.ng, Wednesday morning reads as follows:
ADDRESS OF THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY (NRCS), PRINCE OLUYEMISI A ADEAGA, TO ALL VOLUNTEERS OF THE NIGERIAN RED CROSS SOCIETY ON THE OCCASION OF THE CELEBRATION OF THE 2024 WORLD RED CROSS DAY TODAY, MAY 8, 2024 –
THEME: KEEPING HUMANITY ALIVE.
Dear Members and Volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society,
I am honored to address you today, May 8, 2024 as we celebrate the World Red Cross Day. It is a date that holds special significance for all of us in the global Red Cross community, as we commemorate the birth of the late Sir Henry Dunant, the visionary founder of the Red Cross movement.
In a world suffering from unprecedented crises and losses, the significance of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day resonates even more profoundly. As we commemorate this occasion in 2024, the theme “Keeping Humanity Alive” serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring commitment of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to uphold human dignity, alleviate suffering, and extend assistance to people facing dire circumstances, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach areas.
World Red Cross Day is a time for us to reflect on the principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality that guide our work every day. It is a day to celebrate the incredible impact that our collective efforts have on the lives of those in need, both in Nigeria and around the world.
As members and volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, you are at the forefront of delivering humanitarian aid, providing support to vulnerable communities, and promoting peace and understanding in times of conflicts and crisis. Your dedication, compassion, and selflessness are the driving force behind our mission to alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found and protect the dignity of all.
This year, as we mark World Red Cross Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to upholding these fundamental principles and values that unite us as a global humanitarian network. Let us continue to work together, with resilience and determination, to make a positive difference in the lives of the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our society.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and dedication to the humanitarian cause. Your contributions, no matter how big or small, make a profound impact on the lives of those that we serve.
On this special day, while celebrating our shared humanity, our spirit of solidarity, and our commitment to building a more just and compassionate world for all, we, from a deep sense of appreciation for their priceless sacrifices, remember the heroes of humanity who have slumbered into eternity while in active service. We Appreciate Them All.
We stand affirmed together and, in our commitment, create a brighter future for generations to come.
On behalf of the Governing Board and the Management of the Society, I wish all Nigerians, espescially, the Members and Volunteers of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and indeed the Global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement a Happy World Red Cross Day celebration.
As a Society established by an Act of Parliament, ours is a Statutotry Not-for-Profit establishment to which all Nigerians at home and in the diasporas have the inalienable right of membership and support.
May I then call on our Grand Patron, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, our Grand Matron, Her Excellency, wife of the President of the FRN, Senator (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu, our national patrons in the offices of the nation’s Vice President, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representative, The Chief Judge of the Federation, Hon. Ministers of the FRN and all Stake holders at the National level to grant this Society more support than the well appreciated level of commitment to date.
The same appeal goes to our State Branches Patrons, and Matrons, Their Excellencies, State Governors and their Excellencies the First Lady of each State of the Federation including the FCT with the same appeals to all Local Givernment Chairmen and their wives who function as the statutory Divisional Patron and Matron of the Society at the Local Government level. More funds and support are required from you for humanitarian challenges are getting higher at astronomical rate while funding is dwindling.
Please visit www.redcrossnigeria.org for membership registration, donation and program support.
I pray for God’s blessings to all!!!
Yours in service to humanity.
Oluyemisi A Adeaga (JP)
National President,
