A prominent political figure in Oyo State and one of Governor Seyi Makinde’s staunchest supporters, Hon. Yomi Olajide, popularly known as “Ore Gomina,” has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to years of active involvement in the ruling party.
In a heartfelt statement released on Monday, Olajide described politics as “a game of interests, not emotions,” emphasizing that political relationships should be guided by ideas, principles and service rather than personal hostility.
While announcing his departure from the PDP, the former loyalist expressed profound gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde, insisting that his resignation should not be misconstrued as an act of bitterness or hostility.
“Without exaggeration or political sentiment, your administration has transformed Oyo State in remarkable ways since 2019. I remain proud to have supported your vision and leadership, which inspired me to give you the nickname ‘Fogbontolu.’ Many people also came to know me as ‘Ore Gomina’ because of my unwavering belief in your ideology and leadership,” he stated.
Olajide reflected on his political journey, recalling how he joined Governor Makinde’s political movement in 2018 after returning from the United States. He expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for preserving his life and enabling him to continue pursuing his passion for politics.
He also highlighted his humble background, noting that outside politics, he remains engaged in the Royal Umbrella business, while holding a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Quantity Surveying from The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
The former PDP stalwart extended appreciation to his family, political associates and numerous stakeholders who supported him throughout his political career. Among those acknowledged were his mother, Alhaja Yidiat Arike Olajide; Mrs. A. M. Adegoke; Dr. Ismail Adewusi; his wife, Mrs. Arike Olajide; his children; and Rev. Mother Aloore Idowu Smith.
Olajide also thanked the leadership and members of the PDP and Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the Oyo State Advisory Council, members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives caucus, members of the Omituntun 1.0 and 2.0 cabinets, Local Government Chairmen across the 33 local government areas, The GSMists, political support groups, youth leaders and political associates for their friendship and cooperation over the years.
He reserved special appreciation for leaders and members of Ward 9, Ibadan North Local Government, apologising for parting ways with them at such a critical political period.
The former PDP chieftain equally tendered an unreserved apology to anyone he may have offended while defending Governor Makinde or promoting the ideals of the PDP.
“Any offence caused was never personal, and I humbly ask for your forgiveness,” he said.
Announcing his resignation, Olajide declared that the decision was reached after careful reflection and personal conviction.
“Today, after careful reflection and personal conviction, I hereby announce my voluntary resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This decision has been taken peacefully and in good faith. It should not be interpreted as an act of hostility towards anyone. Politics is dynamic, and no political situation is permanent.”
He concluded by thanking everyone who had been part of his political journey and prayed for divine guidance as he embarks on the next phase of his political career.
Although he did not disclose his next political destination, his resignation is already generating intense political discussions across Oyo State, with many observers anticipating his next move ahead of the evolving political landscape.
