Nollywood actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji recently shared insights into his journey in the Nigerian movie industry and his personal life, revealing both struggles and triumphs.
During an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Lateef recounted a pivotal moment early in his career when a mentor in the Yoruba movie industry doubted his potential, predicting his failure within a year.
Rather than being discouraged, he boldly responded, “Give me two years, and you will see what I will become.”
Lateef also opened up about his romantic proposal to his wife, actress Bimpe Oyebade. Reflecting on their unconventional engagement, he said, “I just called her one morning and asked if she would marry me, and she said yes.” Despite the simplicity of the moment, their bond has proven to be a strong foundation in his life and career.
The actor credited Bimpe for her unwavering support, particularly during challenging times. He recalled the difficulties he faced while working on his project Lisabi, sharing that he was let down by people he expected to stand by him.
“When I wanted to do my first big-screen job, Lisabi, I realised that everybody I felt would stand by me was not there; there was nobody,” he said. However, his wife’s encouragement gave him the strength to move forward.
Lateef also addressed the challenges they’ve faced as a couple, including dealing with online trolls and hurtful comments. He revealed, “My wife and I have received a lot of trolls.
Recently, someone called her barren on social media. She would always show it to me and say they would be all right.” Despite such negativity, their resilience has been a source of inspiration to many.
