The bilingual on-air personality of Jamz FM, Ambassador Afolabi Olayemi Olaniyi, FEIPA, a multiple award-winning broadcast journalist, has been installed as the Otun Mayegun of Amosun Town. The installation ceremony was held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, alongside other newly appointed chiefs in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
The installation was performed by the Baale of Amosun Town, Chief Yunusa Adeoye Adewusi, in the presence of representatives of the Olubadan-in-Council acting on behalf of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Adewusi, a retired educationist, described Ambassador Afolabi as eminently deserving of the chieftaincy title, citing his consistent advocacy for development through his widely followed programmes on Jamz FM. These include the News Paper Review programme Iroyin Egbeyewo, as well as Lawujo Wa, Okodoro and Periscope, which have continued to shape public discourse and civic consciousness across Ibadan and beyond.
Ambassador Afolabi’s professional excellence has earned him several recognitions over the years. In 2020, he was honoured by W Global Research Center as Best Current Affairs Radio Presenter of the Year. In 2022, Orodoro Media Concept conferred on him the Best Political Programme of the Year award. That same year, the Yoruba Council of Youth Worldwide, Oyo State Chapter, presented him with the Award of Integrity (Omoluwabi Pataki). He was also honoured with the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award and decorated as an ECOWAS Youth Ambassador.
Reacting to the conferment, a prominent Ibadan politician and former aspirant in the Ibadan North bye-election, Adebayo Taofeek Aderogba, congratulated the new Otun Mayegun, describing the honour as well deserved.
“Hard work hardly goes unnoticed. It’s a well-deserved honour. Congratulations once again. More wins to come by the grace of God. What a way to end the year. You are our pride,” he said.
Other chiefs installed at the ceremony include the Otun Balogun of Amosun Town, Kazeem Ojo Adewusi; the Bobajiroro of Amosun, Funmilayo Olabode Balogun, among others.
The event marked another significant milestone in the integration of media professionalism, community service and traditional leadership within Ibadanland.
