The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas, has affirmed his commitment to working closely with the National Assembly to create a strategic roadmap that will enable the environmental sector to fulfill its objectives.
During a recent visit by the Senate Committee on Environment, led by Chairman Sen. Yunus Akintunde, Abbas highlighted the significance of the National Assembly’s support, particularly in terms of funding, to facilitate the ministry’s mission.
Abbas emphasized his open-door policy, inviting members of the National Assembly and relevant stakeholders to engage in discussions regarding environmental matters. He assured the Senate Committee of the ministry’s dedication to working hand in hand with the committee to realize President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for national renewal.
Furthermore, Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako, pointed out that five of the eight key points in the President’s renewed hope agenda are linked to the Ministry of Environment. He emphasized the need for substantial support from the National Assembly to enhance effective service delivery.
Sen. Akintunde assured the ministry of the committee’s full support, emphasizing the goal of fostering synergy for effective government program implementation and monitoring.
As part of their legislative oversight responsibilities, Akintunde inquired about the ministry’s preparation, constraints, policy direction, and programs outlined in the 2024 Budget. The committee expressed interest in understanding the ministry’s progress and actions taken thus far.
Akintunde urged the ministry and its agencies to keep the committee informed about consultations, collaborations, and the selection and allocation of critical intervention constituency projects.
In a statement released by the ministry’s head of press and public relations, Ibrahim Haruna, Akintunde highlighted the legislative chamber’s commitment to partnering with the ministry to effectively manage the environment and ensure a safe and healthy ecosystem.
