The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, over alleged unruly conduct that reportedly disrupted the safe operation of an aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Police spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had petitioned the police over the August 5, 2025 incident, citing a violation of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.
Following the petition, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to carry out a thorough probe to determine the circumstances and ensure justice.
“The Nigeria Police Force has received an official petition from NCAA over an alleged incident involving Mr. Wasiu Ayinde Marshal. He is accused of unruly conduct that obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft in violation of aviation regulations,” the statement read in part.
The police assured the public of their commitment to safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, pledging continued collaboration with stakeholders for strict compliance with aviation laws.
Reports indicate that the altercation began when KWAM 1 attempted to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos carrying a flask, suspected by aviation staff to contain alcohol—a prohibited substance on domestic flights. He allegedly refused to surrender it and moved to block the aircraft from taxiing, escalating tensions.
In response, the NCAA suspended the licences of the flight’s captain, Oluranti Ogoyi, and first officer, Ivan Iloba, while placing KWAM 1 on a six-month no-fly list across all Nigerian airlines pending investigation.
Although KWAM 1 has since apologised, public pressure for his prosecution intensified after an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, was remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting crew and security personnel during a separate incident.
