Former Governor of Oyo State and Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, will officially ascend the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025.
Governor Seyi Makinde has formally approved Oba Ladoja’s nomination, paving the way for the historic coronation ceremony to be held at the iconic Mapo Hall, Ibadan, the state capital.
According to information exclusively gathered, a state delegation met with the Olubadan-designate and members of the Olubadan-in-Council at his Bodija residence on Wednesday to conclude arrangements ahead of the epoch-making event.
Confirming the development, Chief Adeola Oloko, Media Aide to the Olubadan-designate, said:
> “Oba Ladoja will be enthroned as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland on Friday, September 26, 2025.”
Further sources revealed that Oba Ladoja had earlier held a closed-door meeting with the Olubadan kingmakers at his private residence on Ondo Street, Old Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government Area, on Tuesday. The crucial meeting, which lasted nearly two hours, was his first official engagement with the council since the transition of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
The upcoming coronation is expected to attract dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Ibadan’s traditional leadership and reinforcing the city’s position as a cultural and political powerhouse in Yorubaland.
