The Oyo State Government has criticised the Federal Government over the alleged exclusion of Governor Seyi Makinde from the flag-off ceremony of the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road dualisation project held in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state.
The ceremony, which took place on Monday at Idi Ayunre, was attended by the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun; the Minister of Works, David Umahi; the Oyo State APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli; and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Oyo State Government described the alleged exclusion of Governor Makinde as politically motivated, saying it amounted to “taking politics too far.”
Oyelade said the event failed to reflect the significance expected of such a major infrastructure project because of what he described as a “desperate political undertone” allegedly driven by a lack of political sagacity and confidence.
He also faulted the explanation that Governor Makinde was not invited because he was on leave, noting that the state had an Acting Governor who could have represented Oyo State at the ceremony.
According to the commissioner, Governor Makinde remains unperturbed by the development but expressed concern that the flag-off of a major road project had allegedly been reduced to a political gathering.
“The course of 2027 is set, and no level of indecorum or desperation from whatever quarters will hold back the will of the people,” Oyelade said.
The statement, which was electronically signed by the commissioner, was dated August 24, 2026.
