The Ibadan Progressive Union (IPU), the foremost socio-cultural group in Ibadan has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Ige Olakuleyin, Ige Olakuleyin I, the Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a statement jointly signed by the President of the Union, Rotarian Kayode Arowolo, and the Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Wale Rufai, and made available to Freshvoice Newsmedia, the Union described the passing of the monarch as a monumental loss to Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Yoruba culture at large.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our revered father and monarch, Oba Owolabi Ige Olakuleyin, Olubadan of Ibadanland. His reign, though brief, was marked by wisdom, grace, and an unwavering commitment to the peace, growth, and unity of Ibadanland. His Imperial Majesty was a symbol of tradition, dignity, and selfless service to the people,” the statement read.
The Union extended its heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, Ibadan sons and daughters at home and in the diaspora, and the government and people of Oyo State.
“We pray that the Almighty grants the soul of Oba Olakuleyin eternal rest and strength to the family and entire Ibadanland to bear this irreparable loss. He will forever be remembered as a wise and compassionate leader who dedicated his life to the prosperity of his people.”
