The Ibadan Progressive Union (IPU), the foremost socio-cultural organization in Ibadanland, extends its heartfelt condolences to the great people of Ibadan, the Oyo State community, and the entire family of the late Dr. Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo, whose passing was recently announced.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of a distinguished son of Ibadan, a brilliant scholar, seasoned administrator, and patriotic elder statesman. Dr. Omololu Olunloyo lived a life of uncommon excellence and unwavering dedication to public service.
He was a former Governor of Oyo State, a notable Commissioner in the old Western Region of Nigeria on several occasions, and also served as Chairman of the Western Nigerian Development Corporation (WNDC). Notably, he holds the historic distinction of being the first Ibadan indigene to serve as Governor of Oyo State, a milestone that continues to inspire generations.
His legacy in governance, academia, and Ibadan history remains unmatched. We mourn his departure and celebrate his indelible impact.
