The Executive Council of the Ibadan Progressive Union (IPU) and its entire membership extend heartfelt condolences to the valiant sons and daughters of Ibadan, both at home and abroad, on the passing of Oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun, the Alli Okumade 2 and the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland. His transition on Thursday, March 14, 2024, marks the end of an eventful reign and leaves a profound void in our hearts.
In this time of mourning, the IPU mourns the loss of Oba Mahood Olalekan Balogun, a true embodiment of excellence and leadership. His legacy as a thoroughbred professional, unblemished politician, civil and social rights campaigner, and a sound and fully baked royalty will forever be remembered and cherished by the people of Ibadan.
We celebrate Oba Balogun’s throne, which welcomed individuals from all walks of life, including aristocrats, politicians, and members of the academia, without prejudice or bias. His reign was characterized by inclusivity, peace, and solidarity, undiluted by negative influences or external pressures.
Oba Balogun’s unwavering commitment to preserving and showcasing the glory of Ibadanland garnered admiration from the international community. As we mourn his passing, we also honor the standard he set and pray that his legacy of peace and unity will endure for generations to come.
