A political group in Northern Nigeria, known as the Arewa Consensus for Jonathan, has urged former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to contest in the 2027 presidential election.
Jonathan, who led Nigeria from 2010 to 2015, remains respected for his role in strengthening democracy and for peacefully stepping down after the 2015 election. Despite maintaining a relatively low profile since leaving office, his name continues to surface in discussions about Nigeria’s future leadership.
During a weekend press conference in Bauchi, the group’s leader, Munir Musa, highlighted the critical need for Jonathan’s leadership, particularly amid the nation’s ongoing economic and security challenges.
Musa argued that Jonathan’s extensive experience and knowledge are crucial for restoring Nigeria’s stability and progress. “The nation is at a crossroads, and we believe Goodluck Jonathan is the right person to lead us out of the current crisis,” Musa said, expressing confidence that Jonathan’s leadership could help bridge divisions and put Nigeria on a path toward recovery.
