In a proactive move to address the escalating security challenges confronting the South-West region and Nigeria at large, the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW – Ìgbìmọ̀ Àpapọ̀ Ọdọ Yorùbá Lágbàáyé) has initiated a high-level engagement with the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Zone 7, Abuja, aimed at fostering a stronger partnership between law enforcement and the youth community.

YCYW in a deeply discussion with AIG Victor Olaiya

Led by the National Coordinator, Asoju Ọdọ Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, the YCYW delegation met with Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Victor Olaiya, a distinguished Yoruba son and Zone 7 Police Chief, to deliberate on practical and collaborative strategies to combat insecurity—ranging from farmer-herder clashes to cult-related violence and organized crime.

The meeting followed a similar strategic dialogue earlier held with the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, and underscores the youth council’s determination to contribute meaningfully to regional and national peace-building efforts.

The delegation, working under the visionary leadership of Aare Barr. Oladotun Hassan, Global President of YCW, reaffirmed their confidence in the Tinubu administration’s ongoing security architecture and pledged unwavering support to policies aimed at restoring peace across the country.

“As youth leaders, we are committed to working hand-in-hand with the Nigerian Police to ensure the safety of our communities,” said Alawode. “We believe that through grassroots engagement and active collaboration, we can build safer environments for all Yoruba people.”

In response, AIG Victor Olaiya commended the Council for its initiative and emphasized the critical role of youth in ensuring sustainable peace. He called for deeper synergy between community structures and security agencies.

In a show of support and shared commitment, Dcp Yusuf Abdullateef (Jagaban) and Csp Ogundile Akinlabi Kolajo psc were also present and lauded YCYW’s efforts. Both officers were officially inducted as Patrons of the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide, an honor recognizing their leadership and partnership in championing community-based security reforms.

As part of this engagement, the Council announced plans to launch a Police-Youths Relations Committee, a platform designed to enhance dialogue, promote mutual trust, and develop youth-inclusive security solutions.

Delegation members present included: Hon. Sunday Adebowale – National Deputy Coordinator, Queen-Mother Fakayode Abimbola – National Welfare Director, Omoluabi Olasupo Qozeem – National Organizing Secretary, Asiwaju Saheed Oloko – National Treasurer, Omoluabi Kadiri Olamilekan – Assistant National Secretary, Omoluabi Oluwaseun Ogunniyi – National Director of Security, Omoluabi Adeyemi Temitope – National Director of Protocol and Strategy, Omoluabi Sunday Bankole – Ogun State Chairman, YCYW, Omidan Rofiat Omonike.

This milestone engagement signals a renewed and actionable commitment by Yoruba youths to contribute directly to Nigeria’s internal security through partnerships, proactive dialogue, and community-led peacebuilding initiatives.
