The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its much-anticipated 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will proceed today, Monday, June 30, 2025, as earlier resolved during its 99th NEC session held on May 27.

The Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, gave the assurance while addressing the media on Sunday, dismissing a circulating notice that falsely suggested the meeting had been converted or postponed.

“By virtue of Section 31(3) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), the 100th NEC meeting remains binding on all organs and members of the party. No individual or group has the authority to alter or invalidate this scheduled statutory gathering,” Arapaja emphasized.

He clarified that contrary to claims on social media about a so-called “Special Expanded National Caucus Meeting,” no such organ exists in the PDP Constitution. “Section 30 of the PDP Constitution explicitly defines the National Caucus — there is no provision for any ‘expanded’ caucus,” he stressed.

The NEC is expected to receive key updates from the Zoning Committee and the National Convention Organizing Committee, particularly in preparation for the National Convention slated for August 28–30, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Board of Trustees (BoT) is convening ahead of the NEC session. BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has mobilized senior party stakeholders for a pre-NEC meeting scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in Abuja. Elder statesman and BoT member, Chief Olabode George, confirmed the meeting and Wabara’s ongoing reconciliation efforts.

Chief George emphasized the importance of the NEC as the highest decision-making organ of the PDP, stating, “No single individual can override the NEC’s constitutional authority. If some want to leave the party, let them go. Their antecedents are part of what landed us in this mess.”

The meeting is expected to address the intensifying crisis over the National Secretary position, which has seen two contenders — Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Udeh-Okoye — lay claim to the office.

Last week, the reinstatement of Anyanwu by 11 NWC members triggered a counter-reaction. However, National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, confirmed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not raised objections to the Acting National Secretary, thereby clearing the path for today’s NEC session.

Reacting to the ongoing developments, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State said he supports the positions of the NWC, BoT, and the South-East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) regarding the NEC and the Secretaryship controversy. Speaking after a meeting with Senator Wabara, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Chief Ali Odefa in Enugu on Sunday, Mbah warned that the Southeast would reconsider its membership in the party if its concerns continued to be disregarded.

“The PDP is becoming an endless circus,” Mbah lamented. “The South-East position on the National Secretary, as issued in our communique, is sacrosanct. We will not be ignored.”

The Enugu meeting was attended by high-ranking party elders including former PDP National Chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Senator Sam Egwu, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Senator Ben Obi, and Udeh-Okoye.

The 100th NEC meeting, seen as a critical point in PDP’s path to internal reconciliation, was described by former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, as a make-or-break moment for the party — comparing PDP’s current state to “a patient in the ICU.
