As Oyo State prepares for another defining electoral season in 2027, it becomes imperative for citizens to take a critical look at those aspiring to lead. One such aspirant from the Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo North Senatorial District—a retired soldier from Saki—has publicly declared his ambition to contest for either the Senate or the governorship.

While ambition is not a flaw, leadership is far more than aspiration. It demands competence, integrity, emotional intelligence, and a genuine commitment to public service. Sadly, this particular individual falls glaringly short in several of these essential qualities.

Questionable Leadership Record
The aspirant currently oversees a company with fewer than 50 employees, yet insider accounts reveal a pattern of mismanagement. Former staff describe a chaotic work culture marred by erratic decisions, disorganization, and an unhealthy environment. Far from building a progressive enterprise, the company reportedly staggers under the weight of impulsive leadership and unresolved internal conflicts.

Allegations of Abuse and Harassment
Even more troubling are credible reports of verbal abuse, harassment, and physical intimidation. Multiple witnesses allege that this individual has, on several occasions, resorted to violent behavior against employees. Such conduct is not only unbecoming of a leader but wholly disqualifying for someone seeking public office. Governance requires emotional restraint, respect for human dignity, and an unwavering adherence to the rule of law—not the temperament of a bully.

Personal Instability
True leadership begins at home, and the issues appear to extend into his personal life. Despite having a relatively small family, he has reportedly struggled to maintain order and emotional stability. If a man cannot manage peace within his household, how can he be entrusted with governing millions?

A Pattern of Lies and Manipulation
Perhaps most alarming is the growing perception of this individual as a manipulator and chronic liar. Constituents and associates describe a man skilled in twisting the truth and using deceit as a tool for personal gain. Oyo State—and indeed Nigeria—has suffered long enough under leaders who say one thing and do another. We need transparency, not theatrics.

The Path Forward
This commentary is not driven by malice, but by a deep-seated concern for the direction of our beloved state. Leadership is too important to leave in the hands of individuals whose records are riddled with abuse, instability, and dishonesty.

As 2027 approaches, the responsibility lies with the people to raise their voices—not only at the ballot box but also in the public square. Let us choose leaders who exemplify empathy, discipline, and vision. Let us reject those who divide, deceive, and dominate.

Oyo State deserves better.
