Kayode Adewale’s passion for education was sparked by a televised program he watched in his formative years, which simplified complex mathematical concepts. This early inspiration shaped his teaching philosophy, driving him to make learning engaging and impactful for his students.
Now, the award-winning teacher from Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School in Ogun State has made the final list for the prestigious $1 million Global Teacher Prize, an award presented annually by the Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO and GEMS Education.
Teaching in a semi-urban community where many students come from low-income farming families, Adewale has creatively integrated technology and local languages like Yoruba and Hausa to enhance mathematics comprehension. His use of culturally tailored instructional videos and practical examples has made academic concepts more relatable to his students.
Through his Transformation1090 Initiative, Adewale has trained over 30,000 teachers, equipping them with skills to integrate technology into their classrooms. His innovative methods, including educational apps and virtual study groups, have significantly improved students’ exam performance and digital literacy.
The Global Teacher Prize honors educators like Adewale who have made remarkable contributions to the teaching profession.
