The newly appointed Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Dr. Babatunde Afeez Adeniyi, has been honoured with the ASUP Ambassador Award by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora Chapter.
According to the union’s leadership, the award—bestowed on the former chapter chairman—recognises his outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the institution and the union during his tenure at the citadel of learning.
Other eminent personalities honoured at the union’s End-of-Year event, held on Wednesday at the institution’s 800-seat hall, included the Chairman of Solutions FM, Adegboyeka Taofeek Adegoke (FCA); the Chairman of the Governing Council, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Amusan Damilare Gideon; the former Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Sharafa Olanioye; and Abdul Rasheed Olanrewaju Ariwoola.
While presenting the award, the Zone “C” Zonal Coordinator of ASUP, Nurudeen Adekunle Masopa, commended the awardee for the enduring legacies he left behind. He recalled the sacrifices, courage, and struggles during his time in office, noting that these efforts significantly advanced the union’s progress.
In his acceptance remarks, the OYSIEC Chairman described the honour as timely, emphasising that it was not posthumous. He said the recognition would further motivate his commitment to the union’s advancement and the welfare of its members. Dr. Adeniyi attributed the successes recorded during his tenure to collective effort, sacrifice, and the shared commitment of members.
“Even after nearly six years out of office, the commitment to service has remained unwavering. This award is not merely a recognition; it is a renewed call to do more,” he said. “The confidence reposed through this honour strengthens dedication to the union and reinforces a resolve to serve with greater responsibility. The progress recorded by the institution reflects collective sacrifice and genuine struggle—unity and perseverance brought transformation. Together, our commitment to welfare and progress remains steadfast.”
He also expressed appreciation to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for his consultative approach in engaging union leaders across state-owned tertiary institutions, describing him as a listening leader.
Dr. Adeniyi further paid glowing tributes to deceased comrades whose contributions were instrumental to the union’s growth, as a minute of silence was observed in their honour.
