The newly appointed Manager of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, Mr. Gbenga Afuwape, has officially assumed office, immediately engaging key stakeholders and inspecting ongoing projects to enhance the airport’s operations.
On his first day in office, Mr. Afuwape met with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to discuss the ongoing state-sponsored upgrade of the airport. The following day, he welcomed Vice President Kashim Shettima at the airport, further reaffirming its strategic significance.
Since assuming duty, he has held meetings with FAAN management, airport upgrade committee representatives, key stakeholders, and community leaders. During a brief handover ceremony, he emphasized teamwork as a crucial element for development and success. He has also conducted on-site inspections of the ongoing airport upgrade to ensure timely and efficient execution.
To enhance security and operational efficiency, Mr. Afuwape plans to collaborate with security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
With a Bachelor’s degree in English, Mr. Afuwape brings extensive experience in airport operations. He has previously served at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. He has also worked as a Terminal Manager and Technical Adviser to the Regional Manager (Southwest). Before his transition into aviation, he had a journalism background, having worked with Vanguard Media Limited from 1995 to 2003.
With his expertise and leadership, Mr. Afuwape is poised to drive development, security enhancement, and infrastructural progress at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
