The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a dedicated task force to address the ongoing issues of touting and extortion at airports nationwide.
This initiative, led by the newly appointed chairman, Mr. Henry Agbebire, Director of Special Duties at FAAN, aims to enhance passenger experience and enforce strict disciplinary measures.
During a press briefing in Lagos, FAAN Managing Director Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku expressed her concern over the persistent harassment faced by travelers.
She emphasized her commitment to personally engage with all government agencies operating at the airports to ensure adherence to anti-touting and anti-extortion policies.
Mrs. Kuku declared an end to the “business as usual” mindset, highlighting the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards any form of misconduct. She warned that strict disciplinary actions would be taken against those found guilty of illicit activities.
In a bid to expedite the legal process for offenders, Mrs. Kuku announced plans to establish magistrate courts at international airports. The task force is also mandated to enforce discipline among airport staff, promoting a culture of professionalism.
To facilitate feedback from passengers, dedicated phone lines and QR codes will be introduced. Additionally, all airport personnel will be required to display their on-duty cards and name tags prominently for easy identification and accountability.
