Popular Ibadan-based broadcaster and founder of Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Oriyomi Hamzat, has boldly declared that he stands a strong chance of becoming the next governor of Oyo State — if he decides to join the race come 2027.
Hamzat made the statement during a live broadcast in response to a caller from abroad who attempted to dissuade him from entering the political arena.
The caller cautioned: “Forget those saying Oyo is calling Oriyomi Hamzat — they’re not sincere.
You may be helping the masses now, but don’t expect them to vote for you.
Even around your station, if politicians share money, you’ll lose that polling unit.
You’re a good man, but the people won’t vote for you.”
In a firm rebuttal, Hamzat dismissed the pessimistic view, asserting his independence and confidence in the people’s support.
“Don’t say they won’t vote for me,” he replied.
“You might even be the one to push me into contesting. I think for myself and won’t be discouraged by such advice.
If I choose to run, I will run — and I will win.
Don’t underestimate the will of the people. You’re judging tomorrow based on yesterday — that’s not how change happens.”
His response has since stirred conversations both online and offline, fueling speculation about a potential political ambition from the influential media personality ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
