A political support group in Oyo State, The Return of Adelabu Penkelemesi 2027, has issued a strong-worded statement condemning former Minister of Communications, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu, over his recent comments regarding the political future of Chief Adebayo Adelabu in the 2027 elections.
Shittu had reportedly stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State could be in jeopardy if Adelabu is imposed as the party’s flagbearer, especially if Governor Seyi Makinde fields a candidate from outside Ibadan.
In response, the group described Shittu’s comments as “unfortunate” and unbecoming of a supposed elder statesman.
According to the statement signed by the group’s Chairman, Prince Omiyale Ademola, and Secretary, Comrade Toyinbo Ayanwusi, Shittu has a history of political failures and lacks the moral ground to speak on party matters.
“It is not surprising, considering Shittu’s long-standing record of electoral losses—even at his polling unit,” the statement read. “What were his achievements as Minister of Communications under President Muhammadu Buhari? We challenge him to present them.”
The group further accused Shittu of consistent anti-party activities and advised him to steer clear of Adelabu’s political ambitions.
“No amount of intimidation, character assassination, or defamation can stop God’s will in the life of Abdulwaheed Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemesi,” the group declared. “Come 2027, Adelabu will not only clinch the APC ticket but also win the governorship election by a wide margin.”
The group concluded by reaffirming its unwavering support for Adelabu and dismissed Shittu’s remarks as a distraction from a man who should focus on his personal affairs.
