In a harrowing incident on February 5th, 2021, Ona-Ara Local Government Amotekun operatives faced a vicious attack at the Odeyale-Amuloko Junction, Ibadan, Oyo State. Ambushed by a large group of touts, the operatives, en route to the council secretariat in Akanran, were caught off guard.
The preceding day, unrest in the Odeyale area prompted community leaders to call upon Amotekun operatives to restore peace. Despite their efforts to resolve the situation, the ambush occurred, leaving several operatives injured, with ABIOLA IBRAHIM sustaining severe back injuries from axes and machetes.
Swift action was essential, and Chief (Engr.) Jubril Dotun Sanusi, known as Ilaji, the Jagunmolu of Ibadanland, stepped in. His timely intervention provided the necessary funds for Ibrahim’s urgent medical care at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, potentially saving his life.
Investigations revealed Ibrahim’s remarkable journey from being a mere operative to becoming the OPERATION LEADER of the Corps in Ona-Ara local government. His recovery and leadership exemplify resilience in the face of adversity.
Expressing profound gratitude, Ibrahim credited Chief (Engr.) Dotun Sanusi for his intervention, stating, “If not for God and the timely intervention of our father, Baba Ilaji, I could have been a memory… It is my prayer that God Almighty will continue to bless him.”
This incident underscores the importance of community support and swift action in times of crisis, epitomizing the adage, “It’s only through long life that one can overcome suffering.”
