The Executive Chairman of Ona Ara Local Government, Dr. Temitope Kolapo GLORIOUS, has expressed profound grief over the tragic gas explosion that claimed three lives in the Bioku-Alaadun community of Ibadan, Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a statement issued by the Chairman’s Press Secretary, Mr. Rahmon Alawode, the explosion occurred while a gas tanker was offloading product into a retail outlet, leading to an unexpected and deadly blast. Among the victims were the owner of the gas shop and two other persons who were nearby when the incident occurred.
Upon receiving the distress report, Dr. GLORIOUS promptly visited the scene in the company of security operatives to assess the situation firsthand. He immediately placed calls to the Oyo State Fire Service and other emergency responders to ensure swift containment and safety management at the site.
The Chairman also remained at the location until the families of the deceased were able to attend to and evacuate the bodies of their loved ones, demonstrating solidarity and compassion during their moment of grief.
Describing the incident as deeply painful and heartbreaking, Dr. GLORIOUS extended his condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed the council’s support as they cope with this tragic loss.
He further disclosed that relevant agencies have been contacted to conduct a thorough investigation and enforce stricter safety protocols to prevent future occurrences, especially in areas dealing with combustible materials.
Dr. GLORIOUS urged residents to prioritize safety at all times and adhere to established guidelines when handling flammable products.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls and wished the injured speedy recovery.
