Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli (APC–Oyo South) has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of two eminent Nigerians — former President Muhammadu Buhari and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona — describing both as monumental losses to the nation.
In separate statements issued by his Media Office and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the lawmaker paid glowing tributes to the iconic contributions of both departed leaders, extolling their legacies of patriotism, integrity, and service.
On the passing of former President Buhari, Senator Alli described it as the end of a remarkable era in Nigeria’s political evolution. He said Buhari’s life was marked by discipline, integrity, and selfless leadership, qualities that will remain etched in the annals of Nigerian history.
“President Buhari’s death is a national loss. He was not just a statesman but a symbol of principled leadership and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s progress. From his tenure as military Head of State to his two-term democratic presidency, he remained a beacon of loyalty and national service,” Senator Alli stated.
He extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Buhari family, the Katsina State Government, and all Nigerians, praying for divine comfort and the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul.
Similarly, Senator Alli mourned the demise of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who passed away at the age of 91 after a distinguished reign of 65 years. Describing Oba Adetona as a titan of traditional rulership and a bridge-builder, Alli praised his enduring commitment to justice, cultural preservation, and democratic ideals.
“Oba Sikiru Adetona was more than a traditional ruler. He was a national figure whose voice for fairness, equity, and good governance resonated far beyond Ijebuland. His over six decades on the throne witnessed tremendous growth and unity in the South-West and Nigeria at large,” he said.
Senator Alli, who is also the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland, commiserated with the Ogun State Government, the Adetona royal family, Ijebu chiefs, and the entire Yoruba nation, urging them to take solace in the impactful life and legacy of the late monarch.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Oba Adetona’s soul and called for a smooth and befitting succession that would uphold the values the revered king stood for throughout his life.
