Today, September 25, marks a significant milestone in the life of my Daddy, Oba (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, a distinguished statesman, visionary leader, champion of education, seasoned professional, exceptional entrepreneur, devoted family man, devout Muslim, steadfast advocate for traditional institutions, and architect of modern Oyo State, as he turns 80.
Born on September 25, 1944, Senator Ladoja’s early life was shaped by his parents’ values of hard work, integrity, and community service. His educational journey took him to Ibadan Boys High School and later to Belgium, where he graduated as a professional Chemical Engineer. His professional career as a Chemical Engineer was marked by distinction and innovation, demonstrating his problem-solving skills and capacity for critical thinking.
Beyond his engineering background, daddy possesses exceptional business acumen. He successfully founded and managed several companies, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. His entry into politics was marked by a desire to serve and make a difference. He was elected Governor of Oyo State in 2003 and served with distinction until 2007, transforming the state through his commitment to education, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
As Governor, Senator Ladoja’s dream for a modern Oyo State was evident. He envisioned a state with improved infrastructure, education, and healthcare systems. His administration focused on upgrading roads, bridges, and public buildings, renovating schools, providing educational materials, training teachers, establishing new hospitals, and upgrading existing healthcare facilities. He also encouraged entrepreneurship, job creation, supported small-scale businesses, and agricultural development programmes.
To some who may not know him, Senator Ladoja may be perceived as controversial. However, to those of us who have had the privilege of witnessing his leadership firsthand, he is a principled and upright leader who insists on doing things the right way, always with posterity in mind. His unshakable dedication to transparency, accountability, and good governance has earned him respect and admiration.
One of the most defining moments of Senator Ladoja’s career was his impeachment and subsequent reinstatement as Governor. This challenging period demonstrated his firm determination and resilience. As Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, He has upheld the values and heritage of the Ibadan traditional institution with ironclad respect. His commitment to preserving the cultural legacy of his people is genuine.
A devout Muslim, Senator Ladoja’s faith has been a guiding force in his life. However, his understanding of religion goes beyond sectarian lines. He has consistently demonstrated exceptional tolerance, respect, and accommodation for people of all faiths. Behind his remarkable public service record lies a loving family man. He is deeply devoted to his wives and children. His family has been his rock, providing unflinching support and inspiration.
Daddy’s legacy extends beyond his impressive resume. He has inspired a generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, and community activists. As he celebrates 80 years of life, service, and excellence, I honour his visionary leadership, strong commitment to education, resilience, dedication to community development, wisdom, integrity, devotion to family, faith, interfaith harmony, and ironclad respect for traditional institutions.
I wish him continued good health and strength, wisdom to keep inspiring generations, joy and fulfillment in his endeavours, and an everlasting legacy and impact.
Happy 80th Birthday, Daddy! Your life’s work has left an enduring legacy, inspiring generations to come. May your celebration be filled with love, laughter, and the knowledge that your impact will continue to transform lives.
Congratulations, the great Leader!
