Following the glorious transition of His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, the revered Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebu Land, all eyes are now on the traditional royal succession process.
In accordance with time-honoured customs and the rotational order among the ruling houses, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House has been officially recognized as the next in line to present a candidate for the prestigious Awujale throne.
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House comprises the following respected family lineages: Olufadi, Adesimbo Tunwase, Shenowo, Okuyandewo, Oshinuga, Adekenu, Adebiyi, Adeberu.
These family branches collectively represent the bloodlines traditionally qualified to ascend the throne, ensuring the continuity of the cultural and ancestral values that define Ijebu royalty.
The process of selecting a new Awujale is not only a matter of tradition but a solemn duty that reflects the spiritual, cultural, and historical fabric of the Ijebu people. As stakeholders, kingmakers, and elders begin consultations, the people of Ijebu Land — along with the larger Yoruba nation — are filled with anticipation and hope for the emergence of a new monarch who will preserve the rich legacies of Oba Adetona while leading with wisdom and dignity.
The late Oba Adetona reigned for over six decades, becoming one of the most respected traditional rulers in Nigeria’s history. His successor is expected to embody similar values of excellence, service, and progressive leadership.
Further announcements regarding the selection process will be communicated in due course.
